THE PROJECT

• The aim of this project is to educate workers currently working in the tourist field, in close collaboration with the companies. We believe that with the work performed in this project, the creation of a concrete platform of people from the tourism industry, we can develop a course program that meets the demand of the people who work in the industry where the need is most urgent. This will in return get these employees more committed to the companies they work for which will result in higher service levels and reduce staff turnover that will ultimately increase the profit. 


• The transnational aspect of the project is quite urgent as well. The tourism industry in Iceland is not as developed as in most other European countries and therefore a collaboration with countries with more experience is crucial for the development of the sector. The transnational angle also serves a great value for the participants due to their diversity, meaning that each one will bring something unique to the project. Project meetings will be held in all participating countries and should further establish the collaboration and an in-depth understanding of different situations in the tourism industry between these countries which is crucial for the development of the project. The future students of the program will also benefit from its transnational relation due to the nature of the field that the project addresses. For that reason we propose to send the students on a short VET trip as a part of their program, both in the pilot program and in future courses. In theory the objective of traveling is to see new places and experience new cultures. It is therefore essential for those who operate in the tourist industry to travel to new countries and cultures so they can better understand this objective. That will eventually result in better customer service and happier clients. For that reason it is equally crucial for the participants in the proposed pilot program (i.e. the students) to partake in transnational visits.
